Emails are one of the most popular programs around the globe irrespective of the region and the profession of the user. There are tons of great emailing services around the globe but only a few manage to make it to the top of the pile.

One such emailing platform is Google mail, commonly known as Gmail. It is one of the best and the most popular email platforms of all time. The platform offers great filters and features but just like every other thing, is not flawless.

Why Is My Gmail Not Working On My iPhone?

This was the most asked question on Quora this week and rightfully so as many people are facing issues in working with Gmail on an IOS device.

In case you are an IOS user too, read the blog till the end to know about some simple solutions that can help you to get rid of this problem for a better emailing experience.

The Major Problem: Security

Security is the major concern that has shaken not only industries but companies as well. So, to maintain the security of users and prevent the misuse of personal information. But when Gmail becomes too strict about privacy and security, many accounts are locked out of their Gmail account.

It’s not all about security but the unknown explanations that do not let users know where they went wrong and left them in complete distress. Talking about my personal experience, I found myself in complete darkness when I went for a vacation and Gmail locked me out of my account as soon as I landed on my destination. I never had a problem with my Gmail account, but why this international trip has affected my account, I did my research and found this:

Google detected that I am trying to sign-in from an alien location and thus blocked me because it considered this as a suspicious activity. So, Gmail did this to save my account from getting hacked. When it comes to the iPhone, this issue has been reported the most because Security is the Priority! So, even if you are on vacation, Gmail might lock your account for signing in from an unidentified location.

Steps To Fix When Gmail Is Not Working On iPhone

1. Visit the Gmail website and check for any alerts

The mail app on your iPhone or iPad will not give you any ideas as to why you can’t sign in, so you will need to visit the official website of Gmail to get a better idea as to what is wrong or what is causing this error. You should use a computer to carry out this method but an iPad or iPhone will do too.

You can open your default browser, be it chrome, safari, or any other internet browser, and enter this link, https://www.gmail.com/ to visit the official page of Gmail. Now enter your email address and password in the given fields on this page.

For iPhone users, a pop-up will appear on the screen asking you to download the app. Leave it and click on the link that says the “mobile Gmail site” from the bottom of your screen.

Once you access your email account, you need to check for an alert in your email box that says something like “we blocked a sign-in attempt” or “someone has your password”. If you see any alert like that, click on it and then click on the button inside of the email that says “review your devices now”.

2. Review your recent devices on Google’s website

In case you have not received an email regarding the blocked sign-in attempt, you should still try to visit the device activity and notifications on Google’s My Account website using this link, https://myaccount.google.com/security?pli=1#activity

From there, you can simply see all of the recent devices that tried to sign in to your account and unblock the ones that were by you. Once Google verifies that it is you, your email account will begin loading on the screen. In case you are still unable to access your email account, you can try to make use of the methods that are mentioned below.

3. Do the CAPTCHA reset

This is a little-known fix that is available in Gmail that can unlock some of Google’s security features which further allows new devices to connect to Gmail. Most people do not know about this feature but it is an effective way to fix this problem.

It is safe to say that the perks of being a nerd outweigh every other person in the room most of the time. While the process is quite easy, Google may need you to complete this additional step when you are trying to sign into a new device or application.

To begin with the CAPTCHA test, you need to use this link, https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha to visit Google’s CAPTCHA reset page and hit “Continue”.

continue

Now you will need to enter your username and password in the given fields to proceed further.

Once you do so, try to sign in to your account on your iPhone. The sign-in will go smoothly and Google will remember your device. That way you wouldn’t run into any more problems shortly.

4. Check to make sure that IMAP is enabled

One of the main reasons why people encounter this error while working on an iPhone or an iPad is because they do not enable the IMAP, the technology that is used by Gmail to deliver mail to your device. Most people do not know about this as it is available in Gmail’s settings.

You will not be able to receive email from your server until you turn the IMAP option on from the Gmail settings. In case you do not know how to do this for an iPhone simply by looking it up on the internet.

This can also fix the “Gmail not syncing on iPhone” issue as most users forget to enable the IMAP feature which in turn stops them from receiving any new emails. For this, just go to Settings>>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>> Enable IMAP.

5. Removing Gmail account from iPhone and Setting it up again

In case you have tried all of the methods that are given above and you still cannot fix this error, you will simply need to use the modern version of “unplug and plug it back in”.

Remove your Gmail account and then set it up again on your iPhone. You can use the steps given below to add your Gmail account on your iPhone again. Doing so can also fix the “Gmail won’t add to iPhone mail” as most people do not know how to set up a Gmail account on their IOS device properly.

  • Open the settings of your iPhone and click on the mail option from the scroll-down menu.
  • From there, you need to click on add account and choose another in that tab.
  • Next, you will need to make sure that the settings given below are corrected;
  1. Account type: IMAP
  2. Hostname: imap.gmail.com
  3. Username: enter your correct email address
  4. Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
  5. Once you have done this, all you need to do is simply click on the Save button to make these changes permanent.

This can help you solve your account addition errors with Gmail along with today’s Gmail issues on iPhone.

Once you have set it up, most of the users’ emails are stored on the Gmail servers. This means that all of your data will be stored on the servers itself and once you set up your Gmail account again, all of your data will come back in an instant.

Note: Some people might not find their data as they may be using POP which is an older type of mail delivery system. In some cases, POP accounts delete the data from the server once it is downloaded on the device.

You need to make sure of the fact that your data is on the servers before you try this method. In case you do not see your mail on the web interface, we advise you to skip this method.

Conclusion

These are some of the ways that can help you to get rid of these Gmail problems with relative ease so that you can continue to have the best-emailing experience irrespective of the device that you are on.
